Jenny Angus
Jenny has served as the board president for the past three years. Prior to a board member, she was a volunteer with her local church. Now, she is the volunteer coordinator for different community groups such as scouts, girl scouts, and church youth. Jenny has a passion for volunteering around her community and helping those in need.
Barb Mittman
Barb has served as the Community Meal Coordinator for Nevada Food at First since 2017. While deciding what’s for supper and using what we have to equip other volunteers to prep, pack, and distribute tasty and nutritious meals, Barb is most energized when she hears how our work makes a difference to individual households and gives neighbors a chance to care.
Leah Schmidt
Leah started helping with Nevada Food at First program as a representative from the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. She and husband Robb have two kids and owns Nevada Vision Clinic. She has watched as food insecurity has grown and is proud to be serving not only Nevada, but Eastern Story County.
Mark Pleis
Mark is the founder of Pleis Farms and T.E. Alderman’s, a dedicated gluten-free restaurant and product line based in Iowa. He has been on our board since 2022 when we incorporated. Mark has used his passion for from-scratch cooking in the Nevada Food at First kitchen since 2016. He and his wife Sherrie volunteer in the kitchen monthly making meals.
Doxie Weber
Doxie started volunteering for Nevada Food at First shortly after it was created in 2009 by a church group as a project to help our local community. Nevada Food at First was originally a meal served in our Fellowship Hall, feeding about a dozen people and occasionally up to 30-40 meals. Doxie is a retired elementary school teacher, and keeps busy on Mondays with Nevada Food at First as well as Kids at First, a Monday morning breakfast and 2-hour daycare program for elementary kids while teachers attend meetings. These two programs help families each week and make a positive
difference for our neighbors.
Chris Holm
Chris was introduced to Food at First in the Spring of 2024 by Kim. She currently serves as the Treasurer of Nevada Food at First, bringing over 30 years of accounting experience. She is committed to ensuring the organization’s financial health and transparency by overseeing the financial reporting while also working closely with the board to develop sustainable financial strategies. She is passionate about using her financial stewardship to support Nevada Food at First’s mission to fight hunger in Eastern Story County.
Jody Melcher
Jody has been involved with Nevada Food at First since 2009, first as the volunteer coordinator and now as a volunteer and Board Member. Jody is concerned about the growing problem of food insecurity, especially in children. Hunger issues play a huge role in their ability to pay attention and learn at school. We have to address this issue in order to help our community.
Kim Stieler
Kim started getting involved regularly with Nevada Food at First during the 2020 pandemic when delivery meals were started. Previously she had helped with cooking and serving the meal occasionally when food was only served at the church site. She have been delivering the same “Split” route every other week since 2020 and regularly help with other routes in town. She became a board member in 2022. Kim has been a member of the Nevada community since 2012 and upon arriving in town she could tell that there was a culture of neighbors helping each other that she had not seen before in previous communities. There are so many homegrown services to help our neighbors that are struggling and provide food, clothing and utilities assistance in Nevada. When COVID hit and Nevada Food at First reached out for additional volunteers she took an opportunity to give back in a town that really embraces supporting their neighbors. Kim enjoys the fun and camaraderie of packing the meals out and meeting the people that we serve while delivering meals.
Hanna Bell
Hanna has been part of the Food at First community since high school and joined the Board in 2024. She serves on the Operations Committee and plays an active role in food rescue efforts every Sunday. Hanna is passionate about feeding people—not just filling stomachs, but providing nourishment that fuels minds, supports learning, and enables people to be fully present in their lives. She believes that access to food is access to opportunity—helping individuals focus on work, school, and achieving their full potential.
